Validation of predicted miR-29 targets. Total mRNA were isolated after 24 hours transfection of BASC cells with miR-29a mimic, miR29c mimic and non-specific miRNA-negative control. MiR-29a and miR-29c overexpression were confirmed by real-time PCR (Additional file 1: Figure S1). Relative gene expression of predicted target mRNAs decreased more than 50% in BASC cells are shown (n = 3, mean ± SE, # p < 0.05 miR-29a vs. miR-negative control, * p < 0.05 miR-29c vs. miR-negative control). Results are from real-time PCR with β-Actin as a housekeeping control.
