This Venn-diagram shows the total numbers of known SNPs and unknown SNPs (italics) in the exome TR from target-region mapping with SNP-cleanup by read-backmapping to the whole genome (TR + Back), whole-genome mapping (WG), and HapMap SNP-chip data from HapMap individual NA12878 (HapMap). The figure implies that the detection rate for unknown SNPs was increased three-fold by combining both mapping approaches (whole genome and target-region mapping).
