The coloured arrows represent genes. The genes are coloured according to their predicted general functions, which has been inferred from BLAST searches, and are illustrated in the legend. The sopE gene and its conserved flanking sequence, which is called the sopE cassette, is 1.2 kb in length. The percentage identity between the sopE cassette of S. Typhi and S. Virchow is 97%.
