Covariation between gene expression and levels of different ITs in a validation population using sparse partial least square regression. The covariation between the blood transcriptome profiles of 74 animals and the corresponding levels of IL2 and IL10 production, PHAG activity and CD4^-/CD8⁺ cell counts was measured. For each of these ITs, the top 50 differentially expressed genes between the high and low groups were selected. A total of 200 genes was included in the analysis. In the heatmap, increasing values are translated into colours from blue (negative association) to red (positive association). The symbol of the genes identified as candidate biomarkers is indicated in red.
