Subject classification. In the present study, 100 individuals were included (patients with AF: n = 50; CTR: n = 50). Based on the AF duration and character of the electrocardiogram, patients with AF were divided into PAF group (n = 30) and psAF group (n = 20). The 20 psAF patients were further sub-grouped based on the psAF duration: Pers< 12 m (n = 12) and Pers> 12 m (n = 8)
